Ryerson Rams Hockey Club Alumni Hockey Game 2003

On January 18, 2003 the fourth annual Ryerson Rams Alumni hockey game was held at Lakeshore Lions Arena in South Etobicoke between the two teams listed below. After a two year drought, Team Blue captured it's first victory under the new "Blue vs. White" format, by defeating Team White 6-5 in a thriller of a match.

Both teams were very evenly balanced and, although it was a fairly high scoring game, with four goals being scored in under two minutes during the second period, the goaltending was superb at both ends of the rink. One highlight that had the whole rink buzzing was a sliding foot save by Team Blue goalie, Gordon Beall, to rob Team White of sure goal late in the third period.

Players of the game, as selected by "Super Fan" Susan Barrett, were Ian Richardson from Team White and Frank Sheffield from Team Blue. Player of the Game, as selected by the scorekeeper & timekeeper, was Frank Sheffield.

Due to the apparent closure of The Red Cactus Bar & Grill, the planned venue for or post game activities, the "meeting" was moved to The Blue Lagoon Bar & Grill on Lakeshore Blvd. and 20th St. One highlight of the "meeting" was multi-talented Darren Matias' karaoke imitation of Johnny Cash. Enough said.

All of us who played and enjoyed the evening immensely would like to thank David Dubois and Chuck Mathies of the Ryerson Athletic Dept. for supplying the ice time and arranging the officials for the game. We would also like to thank the officials for donating their time to our event. Your generosity contributes directly to the amount we donate to the hockey program at Ryerson.
