The 11th annual Blue & White, Ryerson Rams Hockey Alumni game was played at
George Bell Arena in Toronto from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm Saturday,
January 10, 2009. Proceeds from the game go to the Rams Men's Hockey
Team via the Ryerson Adopt A Team program. The game was very close this year with Team White surviving
several close calls after being hemmed in their own end for most of the third
period. After all was said and done, Team Blue ran out of time and Team White squeaked out a 4-2 victory
that required a late empty net insurance marker by Brent Spagnol.
The real highlight of the day was the attendance of several Rams who played
in the late 50's and early 60's, two of whom played in the alumni game, Bryan Webber
from the 59-61 Ram team and Alex Fex from the 62-64 Ram team. Other
veterans from the late 50's and early 60's who showed up to watch the game and
to enjoy the party afterwards were Don DesJardine, John Taylor, Don Taylor, Bud Newton , Don Borisko, Peter Noakes, Mel Tsugi, Jack Morgan, Gary Larivee, Ken Austin and Jack
Phillips. Most of these guys had not seen each other for 45-50 years and
seeing them reunited after all these years made everyone else's day as well.
Since the Rams vs. Waterloo game was cancelled due to Waterloo's equipment
being held up at the airport in Rome, the current Rams Men's Hockey Team also
showed up at the game and attended the reception afterwards. It was nice
to see young and old brother Rams all mingling in one room.
A lot of planning, emails, phone calls and meetings took place to ensure this
event went off without a hitch. Special notes of thanks go out to those
