The Ryerson Rams Hockey Alumni 2001 golf tournament was held on Monday, July 30 at Mill Run Golf Course in Uxbridge. This year we experimented by having the tournament on a week day and not quite as many golfers showed up as did for the 2000 tournament. Next year we will be moving back to a Saturday and probably changing venues.
Of the 28 golfers that did show up, some of the highlights included the father and son combination of Mike and Chris Protulipac of Winnipeg, our first female competitor, Ryerson grad Angie Vancise of Collingwood, and one current Ryerson Ram hockey player, Ryan Hickingbottom. Most of us are still pondering over Angie’s prize selection at the prize table.
On this particular sunny day the defending champions, George Cowie, Mike Barrett, Terry Giffen and Frank Sheffield managed to retain their undefeated status with a solid round that consisted of 10 birdies and 8 pars and they vowed to be back next year to take on all comers. This foursome would also be a contender if there was an award for the group that had the most fun.
The Longest Drive award was won by Ryan Hickingbottom, one of the few golfers to attend who can still to take a full swing at the ball without consuming a handful of Ibuprofen in the morning. The Closest to the Hole award was won by Mick Mitrovic, who was very instrumental in the organization of the tournament so we had to let him win something.
All of us who participated would like to say a special thanks to all of the individuals and companies who donated prizes and for helping to make our day a success.
